Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker visited AEM headquarters on Wednesday for a roundtable discussion with area AEM members and other manufacturing leaders.
Walker joined manufacturing leaders from across the state and across various sectors to share his thoughts about the importance of manufacturing for Wisconsin, and describe the steps he’s sought to take as governor to improve the business climate in the state.
“Manufacturing is a crucial industry in Wisconsin by contributing to our economic well-being and serving as a major employer throughout the state,” Gov. Walker said. “It was great to meet with members of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers and hear from them about what it takes to keep manufacturing strong. As we look for new ways to strengthen manufacturing, one of the most important things we can do is connect employers with skilled workers. That is why we will continue to invest in programs to provide our students with the practical skills they need to meet the ever-growing demand for quality workers in the manufacturing sector.”
Walker touched on variety of issues, including the importance of infrastructure and agriculture, his plan to help develop a skilled workforce for Wisconsin manufacturers, and the current political climate.
“We were thrilled to host Gov. Walker, and heartened to hear his commitment to strengthening Wisconsin’s manufacturing base,” said AEM President Dennis Slater. “Gov. Walker understands that manufacturing is Wisconsin’s DNA, and we appreciate the steps he has taken to support the equipment manufacturing industry.”
Slater added: “This was a terrific opportunity for our AEM members to showcase their commitment to manufacturing issues, especially during a tumultuous election year.”
Organizations represented in Wednesday’s meeting included HUSCO International, GS Global Resources, Astec Industries, Wacker Neuson SE, Kondex Corporation, Vintage Parts, Inc., Diesel Progress, Manitou Americas, Almon Inc., the National Fluid Power Association and Joy Global.
